So I saw something this early early morning that inspired me to write this. It was just a post on someones Facebook about how gauges are so common now that they aren’t original or cool. It didn’t really upset me just kind of brought light to my opinion on the subject. I agree, gauges are becoming more and more common, right now it’s a fad, it’s a fashion that people feel they are required to follow to be “in the norm.” And it’s kind of unfortunate to see the beauty of what they are taken from the idea. I’ve read a whole lot on the history of gauges through my “gauging years,” I’m going to call them, because they interest me so much. And what I’ve found is that to the women and men in Africa who started this…. trend, it was a way to show patients, and to show wealth. The history is so fascinating and the idea is so beautiful I don’t know how I could help not having them, and just hoping that this fad will soon fade, because I’ve learned a whole hell of a lot about patients for the last 5 years of my life, and I don’t want to be seen as just another girl with holes in her ears.
